Some classic synth songs for today

Just because I feel like it. Can you think of a better reason? Here's some classics on parade.

Visage - Fade to Grey

Visage's 1981 hit "Fade to Grey", taken from MuchMoreMusic.

OMD Enola Gay - digitised version

Revamped on computer from the original video in pure dolby digital stereo. Has to be watched and heard

Gary Numan - Cars

Singer-songwriter, musician, producer and pilot.

Human League - Don't you want me

The "Hottest" spot in the video is at 2:56 (The Rover SD1 and the Sabb 99 seem to be the most interesting part of the video for many - the average viewer is a 40 year old makle living in the UK); the most frequently looked at parts of the video are the cars.

Ultravox- The Voice 1982

New Order- True Faith

Knock out interviews with John Foxx, Warren Cann and David Gahan

I gathered som great old interviews in this post. All of them are from swedish TV, which has a long history of being smug, annoying and notoriously lousy on researching before interviews..

One of this blogs followers, Steven Eisler, sent me this clip. It's just fantastic, an hillarious interview with John Foxx in swedish TV back in the 70's.  He seems extremely frustrated and annoyed right from the start of the interview. When you watch it you understad that he must have been through hell in the preparations and set up before they kicked things off...

Short interview with John discussing Eno, punk and being a "Human Being". The ending is hillarious, with the hosts of the show picking up instruments and serenading John with "For He's A Jolly Good Fellow"

The blond guy cutting John off is saying: "I think we will need to cut this off and actually listen to some music instead"... LoooooooL :-)

Lets check out swedish television in the 80's as well. This is an interview with Warren Cann from the popular show "Måndagsbörsen". The fact that cities are called different names in different languages can be confusing. Especially if you don't know what a city is called in your mother tounge.

Vienna, Venice, Wien, Wurzburg, Slough. Whats the difference...

This clip is also from "Måndagsbörsen" in 82. David Gahan interview and Depeche Mode performs See You. Hmm, the interviewer talks about synthesizers vs. "real" instruments. Annoying but common at the time I guess...

First you'll see a great interview with David "Dave" Gahan. Then Depeche Mode will perform See You, all @ Måndagsbörsen 1982. This television musicshow was broadcast in Sweden from 1979-1984.

Note: You can clearly see how the cameraman keeps zooming in on Andrew Fletchers hands to REALLY show that he is fake-playing his Moog Source. Not fair! They should have zoomed in on Martin Gore or Alan Wilder instead, and the nice PPG Wave 2.

Thank you Steven Eisler. Check out his band Jetstream Soldier on Myspace

Roland Juno 6 - Jesus choice of synth

Jesus has made his choice: The Roland Juno 6 synthesizer.  In this clip you can see him team up with polish 80's synthpop gang RSC with the hit Maraton Rockowy. Great intro!

I hear Muhammed is more of a Moog head and Buddha is only working with Buchlas controlled by self developed iPhone apps.

80's synthpop using Juno synths and Electribe

Harlem Nights Music is back with his cool retro creations. Previously I have posted about his Hip Hop Beats made with a Roland Juno 106 and Korg Electribe. This time its also an 80's tribute based on the Roland CR78 drum machine. Great work, keep it up!

"Tributing the early 80s classics again, this time a softer side, based on the Roland CR78 drummachine, which was used in many of my all time favourite New Wave tracks. Drum sounds were sampled and patterns rebuilt in the Korg Electribe ESX, with additional Linndrum sounds where in the original tracks acoustic drumkits were added. All synth and bass sounds are from my Roland Juno 106 (1984) and Juno 60 (1982) synths, trying to emulate the Prophets and other synths used in the original tracks. Additional fx by Boss SE50.All recreated by ear. None of the original tracks were sampled.- Daryl Hall & John Oates - I can't go for that- Gary Numan - Remind me to Smile- Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD) - Enola Gay- Soft Cell - Tainted Love- Phil Collins - In the Air Tonight- Roxy Music - Jealous Guy- Blondie - Atomic"

Yamaha DX-100 synthesizer commercial

I found this commercial for Yamaha DX-100 on youtube. I must get myself some black gloves like that, amazing stuff!

"Anything's possible"

Tangerine Dream live 1983

This is a video of a Tangerine Dream concert in Poland back in 1983. It seems like it was a great concert, I wish I could go and see something like this now, well I can't, damn!

Vangelis - The man and his music

This is an interview with Vangelis in his Nemo studio in 1984. It is quite rare, Vangelis was known to hate interviews like the plague. Great music and a great chat. Fantastic guy, enjoy!

Art Of Noise - Close

Oh, the 80's . Are they miming to a Fairlight?

Scotch - Kings of Italdisco

A stroll down memory lane. Stumbled upon these old videos of Scotch. One of the italdisco giants during the 80's. The first video is just amazing, and not only for great music. The choreography really puts a lot of todays pretentious "visual artists" to shame. Dont you think?

Disco Band

Delirio Mind

You should never ever underestimate the great effects reached by using confetti...

Italian 80's synthesizer OD

This is a video of the song Somebody by VIDEO from 1984. George Aarons vocals brings us great italo disco! A really cool way to use a Roland SH-101 and some Simmons Synth Drums. The 80's were the days...

The clothes they wear hurts my eyes, but in a good way. 80´s pain in such a happy way!

Herbie Hancock Rock it! Feat. Grandmaster DST

Found this vid on youtube. Its not just the music, what a fantastic show! Its almost like a circus dressed in 80's clothing. The 80´s were the days...

Herbie Hancock + Grandmaster DST (scratch) + Bill Laswell (production)

Warning - 80's synth OD

The 80´s was a fantastic era that has provided some great moments in music. This is definately not one of them.

The synthesizer can be a powerful piece of gear and should not be misused. All this is like a competition in bad judgement

Synth Britannia SOS

Tonight its on, tune in at BBC 4 at 9 pm. Seems like we and others that are not in the UK will have to wait though. Or can anyone tell us about a stream, vod, pod, download or something? Read more about Synth Brittania in our previous posts here and here

I Have Synth

Biography:

Been into synthesizers for 15 years, but never a technical geek. I'm a member of the band Velours Perfect, and have had electronic music as a hobby since I stopped playing with G.I Joe Figures. I buy and sell synths all the time, sometimes manically, and my favourite synth varies, right now it is the Alesis Ion. On this blog you can read about whatever comes out of my mind, mostly synthesizer-related stuff though. Bzzt!

I'm also on Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook, YouTube, Vimeo and off course Ihavesynth.
