One more Iphone synth if you can stand it

Now you can get even modular fun in your Iphone. Circuit Synth is a new modular synth for Iphone and Ipod Touch. Personally, I have become a bit allergic to Iphone synths, but I'm sure you can have fun with it on bus rides, job meetings etc. Here's what synth designer Michael Daines says about his creation:

"Design your own instrument by wiring up simple modules. Included are three kinds of oscillators (sine wave, square wave, and sawtooth wave), a noise generator, and modules for combining and modifying signals. Dabble in techniques like additive synthesis and frequency modulation just by choosing different arrangements and wirings."

A CS-80 for Christmas

This was a great Christmas surprise, Memorymoon has released ME-80, a soft synth modelled after the legendary Yamaha CS-80. I'm definitely gonna check it out, and see if it beats the great Arturia CS-80v, one of my favourite soft synths. This is what Memorymoon says about the new ME80:

"The sound of ME80 will remind you of an acoustic instument. It sounds synthetic, but has the expression of a real instrument.  You can shape the tone with aftertouch like you would do on a brass instrument. The velocity feels very alive with a seperate velocity-envelope that took 1 year to develop. Different velocities will have totally different envelope shape. If you want arpeggiators on this synth you do not deserve to play it. The instrument takes practice to master, like a real instrument. Polyphonic aftertouch is supported, but you can select "last played" mode for the aftertouch, and you will have fake polyphonic response from your mono aftertouch keyboard."

Check out ME80 here!

The hitmaker XXXchange and his studio

This time Electric Independence meets up with XXXchange (DJ Alex Upton) in his home/studio in Brooklyn. A great producer and remixer, he has done great work for Bjork, The Kills, Spank Rock and Thom Yorke to name a few. Some really cool gear to drool over aswell.

A good look at the MOOGs

In this clip, Roger O'Donnell (who has worked with The Cure) shows his Moog collection. The Mini Moog, Micro Moog, Moog Source, MemoryMoog, and Moog Voyager all make an appearance. And if you had no cravings for a Moog before, you will after watching this. He also tells some interesting things about each model.

Gnarls Barkley Crazy Theremin Jam

I have only posted clips where the theremin sounds horrible. Time for a change there. It can actually be a beutiful instrument. Just check this out.

"This video is an experiment to see how rapidly the theremin can be injected into the world's collective consciousness. It's amazing that not everyone knows what a theremin is. It was one of the first electronic musical instruments ever made and it was invented in 1919. Are Cee-Lo and Danger Mouse from Gnarls Barkley really theremin players? There's only one way to find out!"

"This video performance is dedicated to the pioneers, Leon Theremin and Bob Moog, who devoted their lives to music in the electronic medium. Without them the music world would not be what it is today."

Great demonstration of a Virus TI

This guy actually nails the classic Virus sound. I'd like to sample him and make some crazy techno.

Tangerine Dream live 1983

This is a video of a Tangerine Dream concert in Poland back in 1983. It seems like it was a great concert, I wish I could go and see something like this now, well I can't, damn!

This is what the Eurovision should look like

Well, it should LOOK like this, but I’m not sure it should SOUND like this. This is the Belgian band TELEX, when they participated in Eurovision 1980 with the song ”Eurovision”. For those who don’t know the language, the lyrics are about the Eurovision Song Contest.

It’s actually a bit strange to sing about the Eurovision Song Contest when you participate in the Eurovision Song Contest. It’s like singing a song called ”I’m standing on a stage” when you’re standing on a stage.

Anyway, it’s fun to check out the gear.

Vangelis - The man and his music

This is an interview with Vangelis in his Nemo studio in 1984. It is quite rare, Vangelis was known to hate interviews like the plague. Great music and a great chat. Fantastic guy, enjoy!

Jean Michel Jarre from the dusty archives

Check this out. Two recordings of Jean Michel Jarre's early stuff dated 69 and 73. Though its dated I have to say its quite fresh and has a timeless feel to it. Jarre surely was ahead of his time.

I Have Synth

Biography:

Been into synthesizers for 15 years, but never a technical geek. I'm a member of the band Velours Perfect, and have had electronic music as a hobby since I stopped playing with G.I Joe Figures. I buy and sell synths all the time, sometimes manically, and my favourite synth varies, right now it is the Alesis Ion. On this blog you can read about whatever comes out of my mind, mostly synthesizer-related stuff though. Bzzt!

I'm also on Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook and off course Ihavesynth.
