New video, Depeche Mode - Hole to feed

Interesting (and creepy) video for Depeche Modes "Hole to feed", directed by Eric Wareheim.

Sorry, Syntesen...

I felt a bit bad about dissing classical music on synths in a recent post. I didn't mean to say that the guy who made the track, Syntesen, was bad. I think he is a great musician, it's just that I don't like the "recreating classical music with synths"-genre that much. But Syntesen is appearently quite into the "recreating synth music with synths"-genre as well. He did this version of Jarre's Chronologie 6 in no more than 30 minutes!!

A lot of sleepless nights....

If you, like me, have been awake night efter night, thinking "How did they do it?! HOW!?" here is what you have been waiting for. In just a little more than 6 minutes, Youtube's synth guru Syntesen shows us how to make the synth sound used in Toto's Africa. Finally!

It's not that similar, is it?

Kill a minute

If you're at work and want to kill a minute, why not try this out? Pretty cool!

Plugiator - I'm gonna get it!

I'm about to buy Use Audio's Plugiator, the cool box that contains up to 8 different plugin soft synths. In the words of Use Audio:

"So far, hardware synth modules were fixed-architecture, basically providing one fixed sound engine and presets which cover the range of the given architecture. In contrast, the Plugiator can store up to eight DSP plug-ins featuring very different synthesis architectures – thus hugely expanding the sonic possibilities and sound spectrum."

The Plugins (Creamware) are:

Minimax - Minimoog replica

Lightwave - Wavetable synth

B4000 - Hammond organ emulator

Vocodizer - Vocoder

Prodyssey - Arp Odyssey replica

Pro-12 - Prophet 5 replica

FMAgia- FM Synth

Drums'n'Bass - Some drum'n'bass shit

Ohhh, can't wait. Now let's just hope that the guy selling it doesn't chicken out.

Nice accent!

Synths and classical music

I really don´t know what to think about classical music made on synthesizers. On one hand, it's cool with all those sounds and stuff, but on the other hand, isn't it extremely boring? It's a bit like recreating a great soccer match with robots or something. That wouldn't be so fun to watch I think. Of course, classical music on synths must have been somewhat cool and new when Wendy Carlos made Switched on Bach, but now? I don't know what the thrill is? Is there a thrill?

My favourite song

Whenever I hear a bad, or strange song, I think "Is this somebody's favourite song?" I mean, how bad a song may be, chances are that someone sits at home listening to it, with lit candles, closed eyes and says "yeeaaahhh". For example, my favourite song, Alberto Balsalm by Aphex Twin must be an unthinkable favourite song for the majority of the world's population, but I tend to say "yeeaahh" when I hear it.

And what about all of the world's "our songs"? Are there couples who have Ministrys "Jesus built my hotrod" as "their" song? Probably not, most people tend to go for the love songs. But they shouldn't, it is so predictable and boring. Now, I'm going to tell my girlfriend that I have decided that "our" song is Rydeen by Yellow Magic Orchestra from now on.

Boss VT-1 want it

One gizmo I've been wanting for very long is the Boss VT-1 Voice Transformer. It's a box that alters your voice in cool ways. In the words of Boss themselves: "It provides everything from voice "thickening" to a full +/-1 octave pitch shift, allowing users to convincingly change their vocal gender. Unlike conventional pitch shifters, the VT-1 affords separate control of pitch and formant, so the user's voice can be altered without the "chipmunk" effect."

Sadly, it has been discontinued and now it is somewhat hard to find, and very expensive when you find it, sometimes up to 500 dollars. Once I almost managed to buy one from an old accordion player for 80 dollars, but I guess he found out about its true value and decided to think "screw you" in my direction and stop answering my emails. Bastard.

But some day my prince will come, and then I'm gonna do a lot of high pitch singing. Like here, where it is used in Airs "Run".

I Have Synth

Biography:

Been into synthesizers for 15 years, but never a technical geek. I'm a member of the band Velours Perfect, and have had electronic music as a hobby since I stopped playing with G.I Joe Figures. I buy and sell synths all the time, sometimes manically, and my favourite synth varies, right now it is the Alesis Ion. On this blog you can read about whatever comes out of my mind, mostly synthesizer-related stuff though. Bzzt!

I'm also on Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook and off course Ihavesynth.
