This is pretty strange

I really don't know what to say about it...

Instructional! And disturbing!

CS-80 sounds with Yamaha SY-2

"This synth features the same filter as the legendary GX-1 which was the pre-cursor to the mighty CS-80. You'll hear the similarity instantly. This keyboard also features aftertouch."

Well said, Joe Zawinul!

”I could never be happy with the acoustic piano alone. It didn’t do it for me.”

OB-Xa vs. OB-8

If you at some time in your life have the luxury of choosing between these two great synths, then this is a good video to watch.

Synths as protection

The best thing about owning a lot of synthesizers is the amount of protection they give you. After you have aquired a certain number of them, the natural way of placing them is all around you, like a cocoon, or fortress. Just think about how secure a guy like Rick Wakeman in Yes must have felt in concerts, surrounded by 15 synthesizers. Only a guy really secure in himself would have the guts to play the Roland D-50 solo he plays at 2.45 in the video below. If that does not scare off all possible attackers, I don't know what would.

From 02.45 - This is the synth solo they play in Hell. Constantly.

ABBA treating the Japanese people like children

It's like a really strange children's TV show, isn't it?

Stop talking and just play the damn song already!

The thin line between good and german

I don't like this a bit. Everything is so "german". The audience clapping throughout the song, the "cool" keyboard players, and the fact that this old classic is performed on German TV in 2005 (??). And Steve Strange looks and sings like an old man with makeup. And why do so many people get up on the stage? It's like he has won the Eurovision Song Contest. What is this show? What's with all the confetti?

Never take a synth for granted

The worst thing about playing live with synthesizers is the constant fear that something will break/go crazy/blow up. With a billion very very small, fragile electronic components under your hands I guess the odds are against you. I myself have experienced a midi keyboard not working for some reason, but working fine after the show, and once we forgot to bring the bag containing EVERY power chord for our gear to the show (but that was more due to stupidity than electric malfunction). For a guy like Jean Michel Jarre live gigs must be a nightmare.

I Have Synth

Biography:

Been into synthesizers for 15 years, but never a technical geek. I'm a member of the band Velours Perfect, and have had electronic music as a hobby since I stopped playing with G.I Joe Figures. I buy and sell synths all the time, sometimes manically, and my favourite synth varies, right now it is the Alesis Ion. On this blog you can read about whatever comes out of my mind, mostly synthesizer-related stuff though. Bzzt!

I'm also on Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook and off course Ihavesynth.
